Overview of courses

Most students start their UCSC math experience with calculus or a course intended to prepare them for calculus (even if they don't intend to take calc!). Taking the courses that best fit your needs and abilities will help you to have a successful, rewarding experience and gain the knowledge and skills you'll need.

The course catalog and class schedule provide the nuts and bolts essentials—prerequisites, units, meeting times, and availability—but knowing a little bit more can help you to decide which course to take and how to best prepare for the course you select.

Introduction to our introductory courses

Here's a brief field guide to

including sample syllabi, links to textbook information, and a few old exams.

We're gathering additional material (particularly for Math 2 and 3), so check back soon if you're interested.  Contact us for information about more advanced courses.

Course catalog and schedule

The catalog content includes very brief descriptions, number of units, prerequisites, and GE codes.

The class schedule tells you when and where courses meet, how many students are currently enrolled, how many seats are currently available (this may increase significantly as blocks are opened), and the name of the instructor.

Be sure to check the final exam times when choosing your courses!
